Hawaii Island police are investigating several thefts in the area of Apapane Street in the Keaukaha section of Hilo.

Over the last few weeks, several thefts have been reported. A man described as local, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5-foot-9 to 6 feet tall, weighing 180-200 pounds, was seen taking items and leaving the area on a bicycle.

Officers want to question a man whose image was captured on a surveillance camera. Police ask anyone who knows his identity to call the Hawaii Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311 and ask for Officer Matthew Lewis.

Those who prefer to remain anonymous may call the islandwide Crime Stoppers number at 961-8300 and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe. Crime Stoppers doesn’t record calls or subscribe to caller ID. Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.

Police remind the public to lock vehicles, remove bags, purses, backpacks and other personal belongings, and not leave valuables unattended while visiting beaches and parks.
