American Legion meets Wednesday

The American Legion Kona Post 20 and American Legion Auxiliary will meet Wednesday at the Kona Elks Lodge, 74-5596 Pawai Place. Fellowship and cocktails will start at 3:30 p.m. and meeting begins at 4. An incorrect time was previously published.

The Rotary Club of Kona Mauka will hear from

Conquer the math monster

The University Center, West Hawaii at Palamanui is hosting a free math workshop.

Many current or incoming students have a fear of math that prevents them from pursuing and attaining the degree or certificate they are seeking. The workshop, titled “Slaying the Mental Math Monster for Good,” is designed to help them overcome their fears and frustrations and get on the path to success. This workshop will also help incoming or returning students prepare for the Math Compass Testing.

Participants can choose to attend one of the following sessions to be held in the Palamanui Library Learning Center Computer Lab:

• Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. or 5:30-6:30 p.m.

• Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon.

Call for nominations for the UH Board of Regents

The Candidate Advisory Council of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents has initiated the recruitment process for four seats on the Board of Regents. Nominations are now being accepted for a Hawaii County seat for immediate appointment because of the resignation of Regent Barry Mizuno.

Application materials, procedures and descriptions of regents’ responsibilities are available at hawaii.edu/rcac, or call 692-1218 or email borapp@hawaii.edu.

Applications for the Hawaii County seat for an interim appointment must be received by Sept. 30, but early submission is encouraged.

Members serve voluntarily and are not paid.
