Kiwanis Club meets Wednesday
Kiwanis Club of Kailua-Kona will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Makalei Golf Club, 72-3890 Hawaii Belt Road, Kailua-Kona, 325-6625.
All visiting Kiwanis and prospective members are invited. The speaker will be Franz Weber, board member of Kids Matter – Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of West Hawaii.
Kiwanis looks to serve the community by conducting service projects that respond to identified needs, especially related to children.

Free estate planning workshop
Warren Chong, an independent associate with LegalShield, offers a free estate planning workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Suite Possibilities, Suite 102, in the Chamber of Commerce Building south of McDonald’s in Kailua-Kona.
Attendees will learn how they can prepare their “love letter” for their family, clarifying their wishes.
There is no fee, but space is limited.

Walk raises awareness of suicide
The Department of Health Injury Prevention Program in partnership with the Prevent Suicide Hawaii Task Force and Hawaii Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention have planned events statewide in recognition of National Suicide Prevention Month in September.

It is estimated that one person dies by suicide in Hawaii every two days. Suicide was the most common cause of fatal injuries among Hawaii residents over the five-year period 2010-15, accounting for nearly one-quarter of all fatal injuries. Also, suicide is the leading cause of death in Hawaii for those ages 15-34.
Waimea ReStore celebrates first anniversary
Habitat for Humanity’s Waimea ReStore celebrates its first anniversary from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.
The event will follow the Paniolo Parade and will be held at the Waimea ReStore, 65-1259 Kawaihae Road. A sale at the store, food and craft vendors, live music and beer garden with Big Island Brewhaus will mark the occasion.
Daifukuji Buddhist Temple tour offered
There will be a free tour of Daifukuji Buddhist Temple on Sunday, Sept. 18. It will begin at 2 p.m. and last approximately 1 hour. The tour will be guided by Rev. Jiko Nakade and Clear Englebert. The history and meaning of the objects in and around the temple will be explained, as well as the architectural features of the building.
Daifukuji was established in 1914 and the main hall was completed in 1921.
