Christmas tree and specialty crop workshop slated

Landowners growing or wanting to grow Christmas trees and other specialty crops are invited to the Specialty Farmer Business Training Workshop from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m Oct. 21 at the Hilo Yacht Club.

The workshop is free but seating is limited.

Small Business Development Center Hawaii Business instructors will conduct the free workshop. This workshop is part of the Aina Mauna Christmas Tree Demonstration Project, which involves importing and propagating seed and outplanting fir seedlings on Hawaii Island.

Rotary Clubs announce weekly meetings

On Thursday, the Rotary Club of Kona will meet at the Kona Historical Society in Kealakekua. Senior ID cards issued

The Coordinated Services of the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division issues Senior ID cards for those age 60 or older Monday through Friday at the Aging and Disability Resource Center in Hilo.

Cards will also be issued from

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Kmart in Kailua-Kona, from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa, from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 10 at St. Jude’s Church in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 10 at the Kohala Coordinates Services of the Elderly, from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 11 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Kailua-Kona Wal-Mart, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at West Hawaii Civic Center Building B.

Caregiver tips discussed

The Senior Roundtable Hui will discuss caregiver tips during its meeting from 1:30-3 p.m. Wednesday at Pink Mocha Cafe mauka of Home Depot.

The group gathers on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss aging issues and is facilitated by Gerontologist Laura Guluzzy.

Seniors heading to Hawi

The Kailua-Kona Seniors will take an excursion to Hawi on Wednesday. Time is allowed to tour the town and to enjoy lunch at Bamboo Restaurant. Members who have signed up for the trip and paid the transportation fee should meet their transportation at 9 a.m. at the Kmart parking lot.

There is no meeting at Hale Halawai this week.
