Presidential debate live streamed tomorrow

The debate between presidential candidates Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump will be shown via live stream at 3 p.m. today at Kealakekua Public Library. Viewers will be asked to hold their comments until the end of the debate.

Kailua-Kona Seniors learn about breast cancer

The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai.

A speaker will discuss breast cancer awareness. October birthdays of members will be celebrated. Attendees should bring canned food for the needy.

Local PFLAG chapter forms

PFLAG Kona/Big Island has been established as a chapter of PFLAG National Inc. to provide support to the LGBT community and their allies, provide education to the broader community and advocate to end all discrimination.

The PFLAG Kona/Big Island board of directors includes Jefferson Gourley, president; Chris Verduzco, secretary; Blake Kessner, treasurer; Elizabeth Rollins, director at large.

The organization will host a Day of the Dead celebration of life, memorial for those lost, and fundraiser for the LGBT community at 7 p.m. Friday at My Bar on Luhia Street.

An open nacho bar, sugar skull face painting and silent auction are planned. Tickets are $25 and are available at 4Good Thrift, Kona Pet Bling, My Bar Kona and Kona Bay Books.

Helping Parents Heal group meets

The Helping Parents Heal group meets from 4-6 p.m. meets Saturday at Kona Community Hospital.

Howl’ween Dog Walk coming up

The Hawaii Island Humane Society is readying plans for its annual Howl’ween Dog Walk slated for Saturday on the bayfront Honu Lawn in Hilo and Oct. 29 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in Kona.

All walkers with or without dogs are invited to participate and are encouraged to raise pledges to support shelter animals. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the walks get underway at 8.

The event includes contests, costumes, prizes and team challenges. Registration is free. Event proceeds help offset costs of shelter supplies and low-cost spay and neuter services. Secure pledges can be made at FirstGiving.com/HIHS/howlween-dogwalk-2016.

Walkers who earn a minimum of $25 in pledges will receive a gift. Those who earn $50 in pledges will receive a free Howl’ween Dog Walk T-shirt. Download pledge forms at HIHS.org.

Auntie’s Angels seeks donations for low-income seniors

Auntie’s Angels will hold its monthly Soup Kitchen ‘n’ Pantry Saturday for the low-income seniors living at Hualalai Elderly Housing.

The charity seeks fresh fruits and vegetables, along with paper products and personal items to share with their kupuna.

Woodturners gather Saturday

West Hawaii Woodturners meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the former Pac Rim Glass Building.

Attendees should bring lunch, a chair, a challenge piece (pewa) and piece or wood for a hands-on carving tools session. Visitors are welcome.
