KAILUA-KONA — Movies, they say, are an escape from reality. But just as the 2016 presidential race has invaded every other part of American life, so too has it invaded our cinemas.

Regal Makalapua Stadium 10 will air the third presidential debate live at 3 p.m. today.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will face off in the third and final presidential debate at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The debate comes after allegations of unwanted sexual advances against Trump and the continued leaks of Clinton campaign staff emails by Wikileaks.

Fox News’ Chris Wallace will moderate the debate, the AP reported.

The screening is free and viewers can also receive a free small soft drink with any popcorn purchase.

Regal cinemas also had a live screening of the second presidential debate.

“After the success of airing the last debate, including many full auditoriums, we want to continue to encourage our local communities to be engaged in public policy and provide Regal guests the unique opportunity to experience the political process on the big screen,” said Steve Bunnell, chief content and programming officer at Regal Entertainment Group.

The theater is one of 206 Regal cinemas nationwide airing the debate and the only one on the Big Island to do so.

A flyer advertising the event encourages attendees to “cheer (or jeer?) your favorite candidate.”

The Kealakekua Public Library will also screen the debate at 3 p.m.

Viewers at that event are asked to hold comments until the debate is over.

In a four-way race, Clinton leads Trump by 6.8 points in the latest Real Clear Politics polling average, which takes into account a series of polls running from Oct. 5 – 17.
