Traffic signal needs repair before more accidents

Nani Kailua Drive and the Queen Kaahumanu Highway intersection has had many traffic accidents. One of the more recent accidents involved damages to the traffic light signal controller. Since then I have reported to the traffic lights division that the sensor to trigger the light is not operating efficiently at the west to east direction of the intersection.

The sensor is not adjusted to perceive smaller vehicles like motorcycles/mopeds. Last evening, I observed a motorcycle with a passenger stopped at the traffic light. The light would not respond to the motorcyclist and he proceeded on through the intersection on a red light.

I talked to the traffic lights division four times including this morning. They passed me on to a supervisor on the second call. I was told that they prioritize their work. I was also told that they take into account the surrounding sensors when they adjust the sensitivity of the sensor in question. In this era of cellphones being equipped with wide angle/telephoto lens, I am questioning the quality of the traffic signal light controller.

Trump’s ghostwriter has major regrets

Tony Schwartz (Donald Trump’s ghostwriter for Trump’s’ book “The Art of the Deal”) has this to say about the Republican presidential candidate and self-proclaimed financial wizard

(http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/07/25/donald-trumps-ghostwriter-tells-all):

“I put lipstick on a pig,” he said. “I feel a deep sense of remorse that I contributed to presenting Trump in a way that brought him wider attention and made him more appealing than he is.” He went on, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.”

Well, now, I beg to differ with Mr. Schwartz. To call Mr. Trump a pig is to insult the intelligence, financial acumen, sex appeal, and goodwill of respectable swine everywhere. In this time of record global temperatures and dying oceans, watching this walking, talking, snarling textbook of personality disorders — not to forget his Republican enablers — drag America through the fetid swamp of what passes for his mind is almost too much to bear. You might say it’s enough to choke a, well, you know, pig.

I guess Calvin (of the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes) nailed it spot on when he said that the surest sign that extraterrestrial intelligence exists is that none of it has tried to contact us.

Dr. Kopp will be missed

I was so saddened to read of Dr. Kopp’s passing. I have read all the articles in WHT pertaining to his journey to raise awareness of homelessness. He was the epitome of what “being human” really means.

All of us should take his actions as an example that we can make a difference if we try. My heart goes out to his family, he will never be forgotten.
