Eric Edsman Jr.

Eric Calvin Edsman Jr., 61, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 5, 2016, at his residence. Born July 8, 1955, in Honolulu, he was the director of maintenance at the Puako Fire Department, a security officer and bookkeeper for the Kona Hukilau and Kona Seaside resorts, a helicopter mechanic for Kenai Helicopter and Sunshine Helicopter Air Resources. He was also employed by E.E. Black and Thornton Construction companies.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 29 at the Puako Fire Dept. Station 14. The family requests casual attire and lei welcome.

He is survived by his wife, April Edsman of Kailua-Kona; son, Eric (Deeanna) Edsman of Kalaoa; daughters, Hoonani Edsman of Kaloko, Leinaala Edsman of Kaloko; sisters, Kaleo (Michael) Makaimoku of Sterling, Ill., Uilani (Billy) Scheiber of Kona Palisades, Zelithea (Jaimi Breckley) Edsman of Calfiornia, Erilyn (Cornwell) Kaiwi of Lahaina, Maui, Maile (Don) Edmonson of N.H.; brother, Lawrence (Wini) Kaaihue of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; two aunts; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Francis Kanoeau

Francis Kahokumaka Kanoeau, 75, of Ocean View died Aug. 8, 2016. Born March 9, 1941, in Hilo, he worked as a commercial truck driver.

Family visitation begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 29 with a 10 a.m. service at Kona Gospel Chapel in Kealakekua. Condolences may be posted at ballardfamilymortuaries.com

He is survived by sons, Francis Kanoeau Jr., Norman (Tammy) Kanoeau, both of Ocean View; Brian Kanoeau of Captain Cook; daughter, Cindy (Dustin Kay-Malina) Kanoeau of Captain Cook; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Takeshi Matsumoto

Takeshi “Take” Matsumoto, 87, of Keauhou Mauka died Oct. 8, 2016, at his residence. Born Aug. 25, 1929, in Keopu, he was a retired electronics and appliance technician for Hakoda’s Builders Appliance. He was a member of the Daifukuji Soto Mission, Kona Daifukuji Samu Temple Group, Kona Daifukuji Orchid Club, Keopu Citizens Club, Kona Gold Senior Softball Team, Kona Warriors Senior Softball Team, Kona Young Farmers, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Oct. 29 at Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo for an 11 a.m. memorial service. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Thelma Matsumoto of Keauhou Mauka; sons, Michael (Yuri) Matsumoto and Dale (Rissa) Matsumoto, all of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Jayne (Darrell) Omori of Kealakekua; brother, Kumio (Patsy) Matsumoto of Keopu; sisters, Nancy Kurihara of Kailua-Kona, Lily (Richard) Saito of Kaneohe, Oahu; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tsuyako Hayashikawa

Tsuyako “Jean” Hayashikawa, 92, of Pahoa died Oct. 6, 2016, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born March 15, 1924, in Hilo, she was a retired office clerk for the Sears Roebuck and Company in the Ala Moana Shopping Center.

She is survived by sons, Don Hayashikawa of Colorado, Wayne (Doreen) Hayashikawa of Waipahu, Oahu, Eric (Corajean) Hayashikawa of Waikoloa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Robert Ghiotto

Robert Joseph Ghiotto, 51, of Mountain View died Oct. 3, 2016, at his residence. Born in Chicago, he was a bricklayer and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by wife, Audra Ghiotto of Mountain View; sons, Anthony Ghiotto of Illinois, Donald Ghiotto, Adam Ghiotto, both of Mountain View; parents, Arthur and Marie Ghiotto of Illinois; brother, Lenny Basile of Illinois; sister, Trina Beauchamp of Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Barbara Stayton

Barbara “Bobbie” Miller Stayton, 83, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 6, 2016, at her residence. Born Jan. 12, 1933, in Honolulu, she was an operations supervisor for Pioneer Federal Savings Bank and a teller for Finance Factors. She was a member of the Daughters of Hawaii, Keauhou Kona Yacht Club and the Kona Elks Lodge.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by her husband, William Stayton of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Lynn Stayton of Kaneohe, Oahu, Donna (Reginald) Lee and Debra (Marvin) Liberato, all of Kailua-Kona; sister, Brenda (Chuck) Eakes of Kaneohe, Oahu; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sanford Yanagi

Sanford Yasutaro Yanagi, 91, of Hilo died Sept. 26, 2016, at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born May 3, 1925, in Holualoa, he was a retired district state tax administrator, a World War II Army veteran, former member of the U.S. Army Reserve and member of New Hope Church.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by sons, Randall (Sharon) Yanagi of Honolulu, Gary (Leah) Yanagi and Tracy (Lori) Yanagi of Hilo; brother, Raymond (Doris) Yanagi of Kona; six grandchildren, one grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews.
