North and South Kona residents were awakened by a magnitude-3.5 temblor that struck Friday morning near Honaunau.
The temblor was recorded at 5:48 a.m. and was located 6.4 miles east-northeast of Honaunau and 6.9 miles east-southeast of Captain Cook, the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported.
As of 8 a.m. Friday, 40 residents in North and South Kona reported having felt the earthquake, according to the USGS.
The earthquake was initially reported as having a magnitude of 3.4, but after a seismologist reviewed the data, it was upgraded to having a magnitude of 3.5.
