Kumu Keala Ching and Na Wai Puna o Kona present the fifth annual “Halia Ka Nani: A Memory of the Beautiful Holoku” on Nov. 19 at the Sheraton Kona Resort.

The 6:30-9:30 p.m. gala features stylish holoku gowns, food, music and dancing. Cost is $50, which includes admission to a performance by Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning Waipuna at 8:30 p.m. To attend just the concert, tickets are $10.

Also Saturday is the 10th annual “E Mau Ana Ka Hula — The Hula Is Perpetuated” from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Keauhou resort.

The event pays tribute to the “Merrie Monarch” King David Kalakaua, with a celebration of hula kahiko or hula auana by kumu hula and students from across the islands. Each school will showcase the best integrity and quality of traditional hula steps, expressions, creativity, and adornments with costumes and stories that support the hula traditions. Local arts and crafts vendors will be featuring quality handmade Hawaiian items, and ono food will be available. Admission is free.
