Hawaii Island police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted for a burglary in Hilo on May 31.
At about 2:15 p.m. on that date, police responded to the 1900 block of Kilauea Avenue, where an a 83-year-old Hilo woman reported that while walking into her dining room, she observed a man come out of her bedroom and then flee the area on foot. The victim reported that the intruder removed miscellaneous jewelry and cash valued at $8,100.
The victim was not injured in the burglary.
The suspect is described as in his early 20s between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10. He was wearing a white “chefs jacket” and black slacks, and was carrying a red bag.
Police are releasing a composite drawing of the suspect with hope that someone will recognize him. Anyone who knows his identity or has any information about this incident is asked to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 or to contact Detective Dean Uyetake at 961-2379 or dean.uyetake@hawaiicounty.gov.
