WAIMEA — Kamuela Inn, in partnership with The Big Island Giving Tree, is hosting a new contest this year open to any individual or group residing on the Big Island. Entrants may submit more than one wreath. Each wreath can be entered in one category.

Between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Dec. 2, wreaths will be submitted at Kamuela Inn’s front desk. Categories will include adult wreath, youth wreath and theme, based on the 56th Annual Twilight Parade’s “Starry Christmas” theme. Each entrant, individual or group can only win one award. Judging will be based on workmanship, creativity and use of materials.

Wreaths must be rigid and circular in shape with an opening in the center and include a loop for hanging. All wreaths must be wall hung and decorated by the entrant. The minimum wreath diameter is 12 inches with a maximum diameter of 48 inches. Maximum acceptable weight for wreaths is 30 pounds. Wreaths may not contain any food products or perishable items. Wreaths requiring an electrical hook up will not be accepted.

One wreath will be selected as the best in the show and receive the Innkeeper’s Award consisting of a hand-crafted horseshoe stand and a monetary award of $200. First, second, and third place winners in the three categories will receive a handcrafted horseshoe stand and a monetary award of $150, $100, or $75. Winners will be notified by noon on Dec. 3. Awards will be presented during the Big Island Giving Tree’s celebration at the Parker Ranch Center on Dec. 4 between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Awards will also be available weekdays between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Kamuela Inn.

All entries will be on exhibit at Kamuela Inn from Dec. 2-Jan. 1.

No early or late entries will be accepted. Each entry must include a Wreath Contest Entry Form and a minimum donation of $20 to the Big Island Giving Tree.
