Lucila Gaspar

Lucila Gaspar, 82, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 15, 2016, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born July 15, 1934, in Honolulu, she was a deli clerk for KTA and a member of the Mount Zion Hawaiian Church.

She is survived by spouse, Gabby Gaspar of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Abby (Richard Jr.) Cabral of Honolulu, Wanda (Larry) Shirk of Arizona; sons, William (Lisa) Ah Nee, Boyd Ah Nee, both of Honolulu, Guy Ah Nee of Hilo; sisters, Jeannette Inman, Victoria Furrer, both of Kailua-Kona; brothers, William Valentin of San Francisco, Phillip Valentin, Benedict (Heddy Jo) Valentin, both of Kailua-Kona, Victor (Sue) Valentin of Kailua, Oahu; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

William Babchuk

William John Babchuk, 89, of Keaau died Nov. 12, 2016, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, he was a millwright, welder and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Private services.

He is survived by wife, Jennie Babchuk of Keaau; daughter, Maureen (Michael) Ward of California; sons, Wayne (Alberta) Babchuk of Nevada, Randy Babchuk of Arizona, Jeffery (Sherry) Babchuk of California; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Hatsue Higa

Hatsue Higa, 96, of Hilo died Nov. 1, 2016, in Hilo. Born Feb. 2, 1920, in Mountain View, she worked as a seamstress and later as a hotel restaurant worker, and was a member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Buddhist Women’s Association and Hui Okinawa.

Private services were held. Family requests in lieu of monetary gifts or flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice in her honor.

She is survived by children, Barbara (Rick) Kazama, Robert Higa, Janice (Michael) Goldberg, both of Los Angeles, Patricia (Vaughn) Higa of San Francisco; siblings, Kazuo Asato, Tomiko Asato, Goro Asato, Yoshito Asato, Agnes Weaver; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tsuyuko Kami

Tsuyuko Kami, 96, of Hilo died Nov. 8, 2016, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born June 1, 1920, in Kurtistown, she was retired from the former Robert’s Bakery and a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, and Nohea Kumiai.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by husband, Hideo Kami of Hilo; son, Norris (Alicia) Kami of Kohala; daughter, Karen (Scott) Read of Portland, Ore.; a grandchild; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Aloysius Marciel

Aloysius Marciel, 80, of Kaunakakai, Molokai died Nov. 8, 2016, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hana, Maui, he was a retired machinist and “Jack of all trades.” He was also a Coast Guard veteran, member of the Molokai Veterans Caring for Veterans and a board member of both the Molokai Occupational Center and the Molokai Land Trust.

Private services were held.

He is and is survived by daughters, Julie (Wayne) Marciel-Rozzi of Goldsboro, N.C., Kelli (Michael Oppelt) Marciel of Silver Spring, Md.; brothers, Peter Marciel of Haiku, Maui, Samuel Kaai of Pukalani, Maui, Ernest (Karen) Marciel of Mililani, Oahu; sister, Rowena Emoto of Kahului, Maui; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy Okada

Roy Kenso Okada, 76, of Hilo died Nov. 1, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kohala, he was a retired Hawaii Island Manager with the State of Hawaii, Unemployment Insurance Division and proprietor of Valjo Farms.

Private memorial services held. The family requests that flowers and monetary donations be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Jeannette Okada of Hilo; daughters, Valerie Johnson, Jodi Lyn (Jonathan) Grover, all of Oregon; brother, Glenn Okada of Honolulu; sister, Karen Okada of Hilo; five grandchildren; a niece and a nephew.

Adelaida Sabater

Adelaida Esther del Rosario Sabater, 91, of Pahoa died Oct. 31, 2016, at home. Born March 13, 1925, in Manila, Philippines, she was a retored Registered Nurse.

Nehemiah Christopher Volpa, infant, of Captain Cook died May 8, 2016, at Kapiolani Medical Center. He was born April 29, 2016, in Kealakekua.
