Trump not OK

There are many policy differences between Clinton and Trump supporters. Who would better improve the economy, protect us from terrorists, improve health care, etc.

But Donald Trump has a history of sexually molesting women and girls. Putting his hands up women’s dresses, walking in on naked teenage models and many other indiscretions.

No matter what our policy differences are, it is not OK to elect a sexual predator as President of the United States.

Aloha spirit gone — so feel free

to leave

I was very sad and ashamed to see such venomous letters in the opinion section of WHT. What happened to the spirit of aloha here on Hawaii Island?

Did it ever occur to you that if our country wasn’t in such sad shape, the “deplorables” might not have come out to vote? People are tired of the last eight years and willing to take a chance instead of voting for four more years of the same policies that have put this country where it is.

You must be in a comfortable living situation. What about all the people who are out of work, afraid to say they believe in God because it is not socially right or work and can’t afford their health insurance?

P.S. If you believe it will be so bad under President Trump, I will help chip in for a one-way ticket to another country.

Kopp’s legacy felt in Waikoloa

Dr. Cliff Kopp left a beautiful legacy in Waikoloa Village. He built us a playground at Hooko State Park.

Tenacious and laser focused, this amazing man appeared every morning at 6 a.m. from his home in Kona. He begged kokua from businesses, trades people and the community to create a safe place for children and families. Pavilions for birthday parties, play equipment made in America with recycled material (funded by Waikoloa Village Outdoor Circle), rock walls, a perimeter fence decorated with delightful engravings. He did it all in 61 days!

We called him Shock and Awe.

Mahalo, Cliff.

No more excuses, build sidewalk

I think the state’s response to addressing the issue of our children’s safety after the death of our community’s beloved Ulu was flimsy and heartlessly cruel. “Not enough funds” to allow children to walk to a school day after day with no sidewalks and no overpass so they have to dodge traffic makes it hard to fathom.

Where does the over $2,000 a year I pay in property taxes go? I don’t see any infrastructure improvements other than what developers have to pay for. And perhaps the hourlong waits that all of South Kona endured for weeks added to the problem of speeding. It caused frustration. An additional lane could have been made.

Can anyone total the cost saved compared to lost hours of work, fuel, loss of business and, above all, a beautiful soul to the cost of a bypass road cut into the hill above?

Build a sidewalk. Start today with no more excuses. Do it for Ulu. Do it because it is the right thing and it has to be done.
