HONOLULU (AP) — The Honolulu Zoo will need another new director as it works toward regaining its accreditation.

Director Baird Fleming is leaving the zoo to take a job on the mainland.

Zoo officials have said they are working toward applying to regain Association of Zoos and Aquariums accreditation by 2018 or 2019.

The association cited funding as one of the main reasons the zoo lost its accreditation.

A voter-approved tax will support zoo expenses.

Former city parks director Bill Balfour is the zoo’s temporary administrator until a new director is found.
