KAILUA-KONA — Firefighters extinguished a fire Saturday night where the structure’s occupant was able to exit the building unharmed.

Keauhou, Kailua, and Captain Cook Fire Companies responded to a structure fire in the 79,000 block of Mamalahoa Highway in Keauhou shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Keauhou Fire Company arrived to find a single story residential wood structure fully engulfed in flames, a fire department release said, and a single occupant was able to exit the residence unharmed.

The fire was under control by 10:30 and put out around 1:20 a.m. Sunday but not before the structure’s roof collapsed. Estimated damages are $118,000.
