Student technology contest launched
A new prize will allow student winners of the Hawaii: Next 50 Contest to interface with innovation professionals and navigate their ideas from conception to reality. Sultan Ventures will provide one-on-one mentorship opportunities for the winners in each contest category, as well as host an innovation boot camp for the top-24 scoring participants.
The contest focuses on using technology to solve problems in affordable housing, food sustainability, or economic industries. All students in grades 4–12 are eligible to submit their solutions through Jan. 31. In addition to the mentorship, winners will be honored at the Hawaii State Capitol, attend a luncheon with key legislators, and receive a monetary prize.
The contest is a collaboration of the Hawaii State House of Representatives, aio Foundation, Hawaii Crop Improvement Association, the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii and Sultan Ventures.

Daughters of the American Revolution scholarships available
The Hawaii Loa Chapter of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution is offering more than 25 college scholarships for American citizens attending or planning to attend an accredited college or university in the United States. Categories include political science, history, government, economics, medical, nursing, math, science, English and more specific categories.

UH-Hilo grant offered for student with a disability
The University of Hawaii at Hilo Scholars with Disabilities Achievement Grant recognizes a student with a disability for his or her scholastic performance. It is for a student who plans to enroll or is enrolled at UH-Hilo for the spring 2017 semester. The student may be enrolled either full- or part-time, have a 3.0 GPA, and is a qualified student with a disability.

Nonprofits invited to apply as beneficiaries of Big Island Chocolate Festival
The sixth annual Big Island Chocolate Festival invites nonprofit organizations to apply as a beneficiary of the event planned for April 28-29 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel. The festival annually awards nonprofits a portion of event proceeds.
Beneficiaries should be associated with culinary education, cacao farming or education, local chocolate, farming or sustainability. Awards will be given ranging from $500 to $6,000 and beneficiaries are expected to provide volunteers and support event execution.
