Give descendants the stars
We’ve all seen the TMT protesters on the roads. Here is a different point of view to consider.
Perhaps the “forces” (gods, etc.) that make the land “sacred” are the very forces that have enabled this miracle of opportunity to happen.
Thereby reward Hawaiians for their vigilance as custodians of these sites and beliefs, by granting them, their children, and all their descendants to reach for the stars. Just as their ancestors reached for the world when they found Hawaii.
Therefore, rather than taking land away from the Hawaiians, the land is granting our descendants the stars.
Embrace this blessing of learning and discovery, rather than protest the educational enlightenment of our children.

Float didn’t represent Hawaii
Just saw our keiki in the Macy’s Day Parade and my heart was full of pride for maybe 25 seconds, but then came our Volcano float with a band from New York that took over the show with music that had nothing to do with Hawaii.
Whoever put this together may not realize it but you insulted those keiki and Hawaii. Why couldn’t the float have Hawaiian entertainers to represent us and our culture? You gave the impression that, “OK kids, that was cute, now let the real musicians take over.”
Please, in the future, I’m sure you didn’t do this intentionally, but let someone who knows us and is one of us take the lead and do it right for all of us.

President should work, not brag
According to reports the president-elect tweeted that he was “working hard, even on Thanksgiving …”
Newsflash, Mr. Trump, being president means working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year (366 in leap year). Do you know what they call Thanksgiving at the White House? Thursday.
Doing the job is what will be expected of you and nothing to brag about.

Broaden your horizons
If the letter writer who said he needs to see it to believe it actually did some research, he’d have learned that Hawaii is in a lower ocean rise zone so we are lucky to not be experiencing the full effects of the .1 inch per year average increase over the last 20 years. There are already islands in the world that are having to move their populations due to rising seas and our military, a reality based organization versus a political one, is incorporating the sea rises in its operations and future plans. Be glad we are not yet seeing big changes here. If one can only learn from one’s own direct experience, then that is a shallow pool indeed. I don’t need to stick a pencil in my eye to know it’s not a good thing.
