Chamber of commerce online auction is on

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce’s annual Bid for Hawaii online auction is underway until Dec. 12 to market products and services from local businesses.

Items range from hotel stays and spa experiences to helicopter tours, ocean activities and land excursions. Gift certificates to local eateries, theatre tickets and hauling services are offered to the highest bidder.

Bidders can place their offers or buy the item outright at a given price at biddingforgood.com/bidforhawaii. The auction ends at noon Dec. 12.

Proceeds fund chamber programs and services support the local economy.

Holualoa Music and Light Festival Saturday

The Holualoa Village Association will kick-off the holiday season with its 20th annual Music and Light Festival from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Santa will begin the festivities with a tour through the village at 5:30 in his convertible sleigh and spend the rest of the night visiting with keiki in his tent next to the post office. Every child who sits with Santa and tells him of their Christmas wishes will receive a small gift while the ohana snaps photos.

All along the half-mile stretch of Mamalahoa Highway there will be holiday and Hawaiian music including John Keawe at the pink Kona Hotel and a variety of musicians on the lanai of the villages art studios and shops. Galleries will offer pupu and specials on their art. Vendors of crepes, pizza, gourmet hot dogs, pastries and other treats will serve up fresh street foods all evening.

Car pooling is encouraged as there will be limited parking at the village lots, school and Imin Center.

Event showcases macadamia nuts and coconuts

The second annual Going Nuts For The Holidays will feature Big Island grown macadamia nuts and coconuts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Old Kona Airport Park.

Live entertainment will include hula, music, lectures, food demonstrations and samples. Fun is planned for families.

It is a zero waste event. A fundraising concert will support protesters of an oil pipeline under construction at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota from 4-7 p.m. A $15 donation is requested.

Garage sale benefits AdvoCATS

AdvoCATS is holding its semiannual Christmas extravaganza garage sale from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at 76-6256 Koko Olua Place in Kilohana.

AdvoCATS is a nonprofit organization founded in 1999 to help feed and neuter cats in Kona. The organization has neutered 18,000 cats.
