History all wrong

I am outraged at the lack of respect that Mr. Harry Scroggin has shown to the voters of the Democratic Party in his biased and inaccurate letter printed in WHT Friday’s letters to the editor.

Somehow, he is trying to make a connection with the Ku Klux Klan and the Democratic Party of the 1850s. This strikes me as coming straight out of the Fox News misinformation strategy. I would like to point out that the KKK originally started out in the 1850s as a Confederate Soldiers Fraternal organization to air their perceived injustices. It somehow morphed into what it has now become, synonymous with religious and racial intolerance. I’m guessing that these soldiers had a very limited education and were envious of the fact that former slaves were now, in fact, on an equal legal footing as these white Confederate soldiers.

Mr. Scroggin further goes on to praise President Abraham Lincoln for his ability to close the wounds from the Civil War. True. During Lincoln’s presidency, the Republican Party was considered the liberals of their time. Sometime, early in the Theodore Roosevelt administration, American values changed and the Republican Party went from a liberal party to the very conservative party that it has transformed into today.

I am sure that Lincoln’s Republicans would not recognize today’s Republican rhetoric of religious intolerance and racial bigotry.

Mr. Scroggin wrote that he believes that the majority of Democratic voters in the United States are poorly informed and thus uneducated. I suggest that he look in the mirror to see who is really uninformed.

You are right, Mr. Scroggin! Your letter does draw parallels regarding racial and religious intolerance, but it’s not from the Democratic Party but from the documented spoken words of the president-elect.

This will be good theater

As a political junkie, I always knew that politics was entertainment for the masses. For many reasons, this election cycle will prove to be more entertaining than the last one.

Frank Zappa said, “Government is the entertainment division of the military-industrial complex.” Get ready for a theater production that will include four or eight years of scandals and perhaps a few indictments. USA Today reported “Just two weeks before Election Day, at least 75 of the 4,000-plus lawsuits involving Trump and his businesses remain open” and “Trump is also defending lawsuits tied to his campaign.” Furthermore, the president-elect will not be “entitled to immunity, and could be required to give depositions or even testify in open court after he is president.”

Our first black president gave us no scandals or indictments.

Bored? Got your popcorn ready? Let the show begin!
