HONOLULU (AP) — Officials say two men were shot by a police officer after a driver attempting to flee in a stolen vehicle rammed a police vehicle and nearly hit an officer outside a restaurant in Mililani.

The Honolulu Police Department says officers responded to a report of the stolen vehicle Thursday when the incident occurred.

Police spokeswoman Sarah Yoro says in a statement that the officer fired, hitting the driver and a passenger in the front seat.

A third person in the vehicle was uninjured, and no officers or bystanders were injured.

An emergency services spokesman says two men ages 30 and 31 were in serious condition, one with a back wound and the other with wounds to the hip and elbow.

The officer who fired is a 12-year veteran of the force.

A nearby high school was on lockdown for about 40 minutes after the shooting.
