A tsunami watch has been dropped Thursday for Hawaii following a magnitude-7.8 earthquake in the Solomon Islands.

The temblor was recorded at 7:39 a.m., according to the Pacific Tdynamic Warning Center. The center said initially the earthquake may have triggered a devastating tsunami, however, officials determined there was no threat to Hawaii. The earthquake was also downgraded from a magnitude-8.0.
