WAIMEA — Twenty-three classes will be offered during the upcoming spring semester as part of the Kahilu Performing Arts Classes (KPAC) program. Under the direction of Angel Prince and 12 faculty members, students can choose from dance, theatre, music and circus arts classes for all ages and abilities. Registration is now available.
The spring semester will begin Jan. 16 with classes running weekly through April 27. The semester will conclude with the Kahilu Production of “Dance of the Bees” on May 5 and 6.
“‘Dance of the Bees’ and 13 musicals are Kahilu Productions and we will source the majority of performers from our performing arts classes,” said Prince, KPAC’s director. “It’s an amazing opportunity for students to study and perform on a world-class stage.”
Classes are held Monday-Thursday between 3-7:30 p.m. on the Kahilu Theatre Main Stage and in the Mike Luce Studio.
Class titles range from acting and singing to aerial silks and backstage production. Dancing topics include ballet, break dancing, contemporary, dance improv &choreography, hip hop, hula and keiki dance. Other options are circus arts, trapeze and theater games.
KPAC faculty members who will teach the spring classes include Noelani Anderson, Lynn Barre, Paul Buckley, Beth Dunnington, Graham Ellis, Chris “Mana” Ho’opai, Leia Lawrence, Elizabeth McDonald, Kat Reuss, Victoria Roos, Val Underwood and Price.
Scholarships are available for qualifying students. Applications will be accepted now through Jan. 6. A panel will review applications and notification will be sent to all applicants by Jan. 11.
