Barry Mizuno
Barry Toshio Mizuno, 68, of Hilo died Nov. 26, 2016, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born Aug. 2, 1948, in Waimea, Kauai, he retired from Puna Geothermal Venture as the owner’s representative and formed BTM, LLC, a private energy consulting firm. He was a member of the W.H. Shipman, Ltd. Board, served the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Japanese Chamber of Commerce &Industry of Hawaii, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce and Hawaii Island Economic Development Board. He was also a member of the University of Hawaii Board of Regents.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 17 at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Temple for a 3 p.m. service. Fellowship will follow at the church’s Sangha Hall. Casual attire is requested. No flowers. No monetary offerings.
He is survived by wife, Carolyn Mizuno of Hilo; daughters, Sheri (Ricky) Ching of Honolulu, Holly (Taylor) Sumida of Hilo; sister: Dale (Tommy) Nakano of Honolulu; four grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Joseph Carvalho
Joseph “Jojo” “Hoss” Gregory Carvalho, 62, of Hilo died Nov. 23, 2016, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born May 25, 1954, in Hilo, he was a security guard for numerous companies and a member of the Abbey Road Gang. He was a former member of Koa Puna Motorcycle Club and former band member of Waimanu.
Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Dec. 17 at Dodo Mortuary chapel, Hilo with a 6 p.m. service. Cremation will follow. Casual attire.
He is survived by wife, Kathy Carvalho of Hilo; daughter, Melanie (Dale) Kahooilihala of Hilo; brothers, Robert (Daisy) Naihe of Hilo and Herbert Naihe of Oahu; sisters, Gladys Berrios of Hilo and Margo Gonsalves of California; two grandsons; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Clarence Medeiros
Clarence Medeiros, 85, of Honaunau died Nov. 29, 2016, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 18, 1931, in Kealakekua, he was a cattle rancher and owner of CM Ranch. He was a cowboy for Magoon Ranch. He was a heavy equipment operator for J.M. Tanaka Construction and Keauhou Kona Resorts companies. He was a member of the Kona Kau Roping and Polo Clubs; co-founder of the Honaunau Rodeo Arena and was inducted into the Paniolo Hall of Fame.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. Dec. 17 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau for a 10 a.m. Mass with burial in the church’s cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Medeiros of Honaunau; sons, Kealoha (Shirley) Medeiros, Marvin Medeiros, and Jesse (Tammy) Medeiros, all of Honaunau; daughters, Lei Medeiros of Las Vegas, Clarice Medeiros of Honalo; brothers, Alfred Medeiros of Hookena, Gilbert Medeiros of South Point, and Frank (Vicky) Medeiros of Kauai; sister, Phoebe Loo of the mainland; 16 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Richard Perreira
Richard R. Perreira, 96, of Ahualoa died Dec. 5, 2016, in Ewa Beach, Oahu. Born June 11, 1920, in Waimea, he retired as a heavy equipment operator for James W. Glover Construction.
Visitation will be from 8-10 a.m. Dec. 17 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial at the Church Cemetery. Casual attire; flowers are welcomed.
He is survived by daughter, Annette (Mackie) Maulson of Ewa Beach, Oahu; sisters, Miriam Reyes, Lovina Carvalho and Alice Obina all from Big Island; brother, Joseph Alameida of Kona; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Romeo Rivera
Romeo Raymond Rivera, 67, of Holualoa died Nov. 16, 2016, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born Feb. 1, 1949, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and a commercial and residential electrician and a driver for Resorts Limousines.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Dec. 19 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona followed by a 10 a.m. Mass. Inurnment will be at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery at noon. A luncheon will follow at the Old Airport’s Makaeo pavilion. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by companion, Judy McRobbie of Holualoa; son, Cameron (Tomi) Rivera of Kailua, Oahu; mother, Marcela Rivera and brother, Marvin Rivera, both of Laupahoehoe; sisters, Bellia (Tom)Poy and Nancy Hiro, all of Hilo; two granddaughters; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
