MAUNA LANI – Kauai native TJ Kua fired a 4-under 68 during Round 2 of the Hawaii State Open on Saturday to take over the lead in the Men’s Open Division.

Kua teed it up with past champions Dean Wilson — who shot 67 Friday — and SJ Maeng. Kua had a bogey free round with four birdies on the Francis H I’i Brown North Course at Mauna Lani. One group ahead, David Fink was making a move as well with an eagle on the No. 10 and all pars on the back side to also finish at 4-under 68. Heading into the final round today, Fink remains one swing back of Kua with Tadd Fujikawa, Samuel Cyr, Nick Mason and Cory Oride hot on their trail.

In the Senior Open Division, Professional Tom Sovay leads with a two-day total of 37. Sovay has a strong six stroke lead over Bill Breen. Jonathan Ota of Kauai is the low amateur in the Senior Open.

Nicole Sakamoto took the lead in the Women’s Open by posting another 71, for a two-day total of 142. She holds a three stroke lead over defending champion Britney Yada, who shot 72 today to finish at 145.

The final round will start at 6:50 a.m. today on the North Course with the Senior Open and Men’s Open Division. On the South Course the A-Flight will tee off first followed by the Women’s Open at 6:50 a.m. The event welcomes spectators and is free.
