Martin Luther King Jr. celebration planned

The 36th annual community celebration, potluck and program to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday will be held at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 15 in the Makaeo pavilion at Old Kona Airport Park.

The celebration will consist of displays of art and music by area schools and the community. The event is planned by the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday committee and volunteers.

Hospice of Kona training coming up

Hospice of Kona is looking for compassionate, caring, reliable, community members to be trained to help with services to patients, in the Hospice of Kona office, Memory Lane and in the community.

Hospice of Kona is offering a free volunteer training from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 17 and Wed. Jan. 18. Both days are mandatory to become a certified Hospice volunteer.

Talk focuses on escrow and property management

Vonnie Razo of First American Title and Krista Gonsales of Pacific Breeze Properties will present “The Process of Escrow Procedures and Managing Your Rental Properties” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in conference room 6 of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Come learn the basics of escrow and title and benefits to having a property manager. The event is hosted by Alii Networkers Chapter of Business Network International and is free. Parking at the hotel will be validated for $4. Seating is limited.

Cuaresma makes college dean’s list

Alexandria Cuaresma of Kailua-Kona has been named to the dean’s list at Eastern Oregon University for the fall term. Qualifying students achieve and maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale while completing a minimum of 12 hours of graded coursework for the duration of the term.
