Elks remember Allen Nance

Allen Nance’s memorial service is being held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kona Elks Lodge. There will be a gathering at 2 p.m. for reminiscing and honoring his life, and service to Kona Elks Lodge as two-time president and his many years as esquire. This will be followed by a meal featuring Allen’s barbecue ribs, coleslaw and beans for $10. Reservations necessary for the meal, call 329-2616.

Hawaiian language competition, concert Saturday

Punana Leo o Kona presents the fourth annual Aha Aloha Olelo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Makaeo Events Pavilion at Old Kona Airport.

Live entertainment will be by Danny Carvalho, Kalani Pea Duncan Kamakana Osorio, Jon Osorio and Jamaica Osorio. The event will also feature vendors, Hawaiian food and bouncers, games and a petting zoo.

A Hawaiian language competition with more than 100 competitors from schools will also be held. Tickets to the event are $10 or $12 at the door and keiki 10 and under are free.

Pike named to dean’s list

Sabrina L. Pike, daughter of Rowena and Nigel Pike of Kailua-Kona, has been named to the dean’s list at Hamilton College for the fall semester.

To be named to the dean’s list, a student must have carried throughout the semester a course load of four or more graded credits with an average of 3.5 or above.

Pike, a first-year student, is a graduate of Kealakehe High School.
