Allen Nance

Allen Hailey Nance, 86, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 7, 2017, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born July 24, 1930, in Santa Maria, Calif., he was retired from being in charge of maintenance at Perry Technical Institute. He continued his carpenter work in Hawaii. He was a member and PER of Kona Elks Lodge No. 2616.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 14 at Kona Elks Lodge. Scattering of his ashes will follow. Allen’s famous baby back ribs will be served at 2 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. Reservations are required. Donations may be made in his memory to Life Care Center of Kona. The family requests casual attire.

He is survived by wife, Barbara Nance of Kailua-Kona; sons, Allen (Peggy) Nance Jr., of Renton, Wash., Tom (Rose) Nance of Seattle, Mark Townsend of Billings, Mont., Charles (Stella) Townsend of Gilbert, Ariz., and Charles (Patty) Nance of Alexandria, Va.; daughters, Beth Esslinger of Beaverton, Ore., Lisa (Geoff) Owen of Kirkland, Wash., Julia (Bill) Olson of Maple Valley, Wash., Mary Beth Nance of Newport Hills, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dorothy Berg

Dorothy Louise Berg, 93, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 2, 2017, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 21, 1923, in Pittsburgh, Penn., she was the owner of The Gift Box in Kealakekua and Kailua-Kona, former sales clerk for Capwell’s in Oakland, Calif. and J.L. Hudson in Detroit, and a member of Holy Rosary Church Kalaoa.

The 10 a.m. Jan. 22 Mass at Holy Rosary Church in Kalaoa will be dedicated to Dorothy. Family requests that attendees wear pink.

She is survived by son, Christian Scott (Arlene Buckles) Berg of Kailua-Kona; numerous friends.

George Cross

George “Ben” Bernard Cross, 76, of Kealakekua died Nov. 24, 2016, at his home. Born May 19, 1940, in Lytham, England, he was a retired Navy chief machinist’s mate, a former Pearl Harbor Shipyard engineer, a security guard at Kona International Airport and a Navy veteran.

A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. 11 a.m. Jan. 28, 2017, at Yano Hall in Captain Cook.

He is survived by wife, Norita Cross of Kealakekua; son, Sean (Yuuko) Cross of Wahiawa, Oahu; daughter, Kalani (Mario Batangan) Cross of Kailua-Kona; brother, Peter (Robin) Cross of Riverside, Calif.; five grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Marti Beaudion

Marti Lynn Beaudion, 44, of Pahoa died Jan. 2, 2017. She was born Jan. 9, 1972, in California.

She is survived by sons, Patrick Hanato and Jason (Claira) Hanato, both of Puna; daughters, Katheleen Hanato of Puna, Cynthia Beaudion of Louisiana; brother, Robert (Amy) Collard of Lousiana; sister, Deborah (Ernest) Lum of Puna; two grandchildren; numerous nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Stanley Tanaka

Stanley Tadaharu Tanaka, 90, of Hilo died Dec. 27, 2016, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Mountain View, he was a retired service manager for Orchid Isle Auto Center and an Army veteran.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Asako Tanaka of Hilo; son, Gareth (Eun Sung) Tanaka of Honolulu; sister, Shinako (Thomas) Shindo of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.
