LavaKids Family Fun Runs
LavaKids, in partnership with Club Rehab, will host its Family Fun Runs Jan. 21 at 7 a.m. on Ane Keohokalole Highway beginning at the West Hawai`i Civic Center. The event is a free and open to all ages.
Registration will take place at 7 a.m. followed by a keiki dash at 7:45 a.m.. The one-mile and 2-mile run/walk will begin at 7:55 a.m. with the 5k run/walk right after.
Games and supervision will be provided for keiki during the 5k for parents wanting to participate.
The guest speaker will be former MLB pitcher Mike Hartley, who will talk about the importance of living an active and healthy lifestyle beginning at a young age.

Jackie Rey’s Paddlesports Relay
The fourth annual Jackie Rey’s Relay for OC-1, OC-2 and Surfskis will be held on Jan. 21.
Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. with a race meeting at 8:45 a.m. The race start at 9 a.m.
All paddlers must register at the Keauhou Canoe Club halau at Keauhou Bay.

Hospice of Kona Love 2 Fish Tourney
The 11th annual Love 2 Fish tournament, presented by Hospice of Kona will take place on Feb. 11. The tourney is limited to just 100 boats, and after a day of fishing, there will be a dinner and silent auction.
Monetary prizes will be awarded in the following categories: marlin, ahi, mahi-mahi and ono, as well as in a special “couples division.”
Registration is $250 ($150 is donated to Hospice of Kona, $100 in cash goes to the tournament cash prize pool) and entrants can sign up directly at Honokohau Harbor’s Charter Desk or by calling the Charter Desk at 329-5735.

HI-PAL boxing
The Hawaii Police Department has announced the return of the HI-PAL boxing program for boys and girls ages 8-17 in West Hawaii. Events will begin in February.

Hawaii Cycling Club
Hawaii Cycling Club will host the fourth annual Century Rides on April 9 starting at Spencer Beach Park in Kawaihae.
The three distances (30, 60 and 109 miles) will be held as a ride, not a race, and is also a fundraiser for Hospice of Kona.
Aid stations, a picnic lunch and a t-shirt are all included in the $50 entry fee. An early bird registration special of $25 is available for January.
Also, for the second year, Hawaii Cycling is offering a Couch to Century 12-week training program every Saturday, starting Jan. 14 and running to April 1. The training program will include guided rides, tips and guidelines for both beginner and intermediate riders.
The Couch to Century program is free. Riders will meet at 6:45 a.m. and should be prepared to go 5-10 miles for beginners and 20-23 miles for intermediate riders. Helmets are required.

Kelly Fliear, Tournament Manager of the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, gives an overview of the PGA Tour Champions event and talks about the field of 49 players including 11 current World Golf Hall of Fame members. Fliear talks about the monies that have been raised every year for the Rotary Club of Kona Community Foundation, Big Island Junior Golf and Daniel R. Sayre Foundation.
Dr. Frank and Laura Sayre talk about the Daniel R. Sayre Foundation and how the funds from The Mitsubishi Electric Championship have been used. The Foundation has been purchasing rescue equipment for the Hawaii County Fire Department for the past 20 years in memory of their son Daniel, who lost his life in a hiking accident.
Larry Webb, who with Kris Hazard is Volunteer Co-Chair for 400 volunteers under the umbrella of the Rotary Club of Kona, talks about the many very visible roles the volunteers have at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship.
