All walls not equal

Mr. Stephen Buckwalter should do some history fact-checking about walls, and since I was born behind that wall, I’ll gladly shed some light on the subject.

The wall in Eastern Europe was serving only one purpose, forbidding the brainwashed citizens to leave the countries, and if they tried they were shot at, electrocuted by the live wire border fence, or blown up when they stepped on a mine in the border areas. We who lived behind that wall were no threat to the other side.

The last time I checked anyone wanting to leave the USA are free to do so. Regardless of one supporting or being against the wall proposed by President Trump, comparing the two walls is a serious mistake, and indicates lack of knowledge.

Protests need better goals

It seems that the “protest rage” has now reached and infected Hawaii. One now sees protesters out on the highways and byways waving placards and flags protesting everything from Hillary to Trump to the TMT (Mauna Kea) and now the latest is the Women’s March on I don’t know what.

Why don’t we all take a moment or two and give thought to all of us getting together and protest for something that would be beneficial to us all on the island. With the help of the media a massive protest and march could be launched on the county to improve our island’s infrastructure. That, to me, would be constructively a step forward in the “protest rage” that would have protest value if we the people could pull it off, effectively.

You have problems in other parts of the country that we here in Hawaii have no say in anyway. Let’s just strive to keep Hawaii great.

Gabbard should represent Hawaii properly

Tulsi Gabbard’s Sept. 27 op-ed clearly states her support for Syria’s President Assad. Assad has been accused of many massacres and severe human rights violations against his own people. His assault on the Syrian people began with his violent response to the “Arab Spring” protests in 2011, in which Syrian people demanded democratic reforms and the release of political prisoners.

In response, Assad opened fire on protesters and arrested students and human rights activists. Tulsi Gabbard was elected to represent Democrats in Hawaii. Does her support of Assad reflect the values of the Democratic Party of Hawaii?
