Hawaii Island Police issued a warning Monday to local businesses about forged or worthless checks being used across the island.

Police suggest anyone accepting checks for purchases or services do their due diligence by confirming identification, as well as noting and reporting to the appropriate authorities any suspicious activity.

Police further request that anyone with information regarding the falsified checks reach out to the department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.

Those who wish to remain anonymous may contact islandwide Crime Stoppers at 961-8300. Crime Stoppers keeps all information confidential. Tipsters with good information may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
