200-acre brush fire reported in Ka’u

HFD personnel and volunteer companies dispatched Tuesday to put out a brush fire for the second day off Highway 11 in Ka’u.

Pastureland and thick grassy fuel were involved, the Hawaii Fire Department reported. No injuries were reported structures were not threatened. It was burning in Naalehu at 62-63 mile marker off the highway.

Fire was being extinguished with helicopter bucket drops and by ground crews via 4-wheel drive access roads. Operations were reported to continue throughout Tuesday with nightwatch personnel at night.

Fire was reported contained.
