Ricky Caraballo

Ricky Elliot Caraballo, 61, of Pahoa died Feb. 9, 2017, at his residence. He was born Feb. 2, 1956, in Honolulu.

Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m. Feb. 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo with a 6 p.m. service. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by sons, Conrad (Johanna) Caraballo, Ricky (Brooke) Caraballo, all of Sacramento, Calif., Ricky (Crystal) Caraballo of Pahoa, Gerardo (Shanayd) Caraballo of Kona; daughters, Chasity (Liwai) Napuelua of Honolulu, Samantha (Ashton) Rivera of Pahoa; brother, Robin Caraballo of Honolulu; sisters, Sylvia Gilbert of Pahoa, Linda Caraballo of New York; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Lionel LaBrie

Lionel Leo LaBrie, 94, of Hilo died Jan. 28, 2017, at home. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, he was a retired truck driver with Leo’s Rubbish, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Air National Guard.

Friends may call from 9-10:30 a.m. Feb. 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10:30 a.m. funeral service, followed by burial at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. The family requests that casual attire be worn.

He is survived by companion, Betty Royston of Hilo; sons, Robert (Carol) LaBrie of Ookala, Larry Robert (Jan) Royston of Georgia, Steven Scott (Connie) Royston of Hilo; daughter, Cheryl (Fred) Konanui of Honolulu; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Kiyoshi Miyashiro

Kiyoshi Miyashiro, 82, of Kapulena died Feb. 8, 2017, at his home. Born in Haina, he was a retired landscaper for the former Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Waikoloa, warehouseman for the former Hawaiian Holiday Macadamia Nut Co., had served in the Hawaii Army National Guard, former kyodan president and member of Honokaa Hongwanji Mission, and member of Hui Uruma, ILWU Pension Club, and Kanani O Honokaa Senior Softball Team.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at Honokaa Hongwanji Mission for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Yoshiko Miyashiro of Kapulena; daughter, Stephanie Miyashiro of Kapulena; son, Michael Miyashiro of Honolulu; brother, Yoshiaki Miyashiro of Honolulu; sister, Fusako Miyashiro of Honolulu; numerous nieces and nephews.

Naokichi Nozaki

Naokichi Nozaki, 94, of Keaau died Jan. 23, 2017, at his home. Born in Olaa, he was a retired mechanic for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and member of Taishoji Soto Mission, Taishoji Bonsai Club, Big Island Bonsai Club, Lehua Bonsai Club, Kamana Bonsai Club, Keaau Village Kumiai, and recognized in 2009 by the Japanese Community Association of Hawaii as a Cultural Treasure for his contribution in perpetuating the Japanese Culture of Bonsai.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Feb. 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by sons, Mark Nozaki of Keaau, Scott (Nan) Nozaki of Hilo; daughters, Shan (Ric) Jeans of Portland, Ore., Michele (Peter) Bolger of Chicago; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Beatrice Chau

Beatrice Kaonohipua Chau, 91, of Hawi died Feb. 4, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kohala, she was a retired cook and waitress with the former Luke’s Restaurant and Hotel. She was also a member of the Kohala Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Friends may call from 9-10:30 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Kohala Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hawi, where a service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests that casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Melvin Chau, Rudolph Chau, both of Kohala; daughter, Bernadette (Robert) Cunningham of Mililani, Oahu; brother, Bush Kauahilo of Honolulu; sister, Henrietta Emiliano of Kohala; 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
