Free composting class Sunday

Ka‘u Farm School will be offered from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Earth Matters Farm at the corner of South Point Road and Kamaoa Road.

Attendees will learn how to start a home composting system and about creating the best soil for their gardens. The workshop is free but donations will be accepted.

Cancer support group meets

The cancer support group that meets on the last Tuesday of each month at Teshima’s restaurant on Honalo will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Those newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as caregivers and family members.

The group meets to share cancer related issues and to lend support to one another. Women are encouraged to learn about breast cancer risks and early detection to help make informed decisions.

North Kona place names discussed by storyteller

Stories that speak histories of wahi pana the celebrated landscapes of North Kona, will be told at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kailua-Kona Public Library.

Storyteller Kuulei Keakealani will share stories and place names of the region along with their meanings. The knowledge and significance of these landscapes will be shared through poetry readings that will add to the evening.

Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, this program is free.

Lifestyle Market at the Living + Design Show seeks vendors

The Lifestyle Market is a vendor show where crafters and entrepreneurs can sell their locally made products and produce directly to consumers. It’s a new addition to the 12th annual Living + Design Show planned from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay Kaleiopapa Convention Center. The market that is free and is estimated to host more than 2,200 attendees.

The one-day vendor fee is $50. Cost for both days is $90.
