Kuʻulei Keakealani, a Hawaiian speaker and storyteller who has deep ties through her family and research, will present a series of free talk-story classes about the most celebrated places in old Hawaii, and stories or legends about them. The series kicks off this Tuesday from 4-5:30 p.m. in Waimea Middle School’s L03A classroom. Future Tuesdays are March 14, 28, April 4, 11, 18 and 25.
Each week, participants will hear a mo’olelo (story) and extract place names to explore meanings and other pertinent information. Attendees are asked to bring a Hawaiian dictionary by Mary Kawena Pukui to be engaged in active research.
No RSVP is required. The series is sponsored by Waimea Education Hui and Waimea Middle School in partnership with the Richard Smart Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation and Kamehameha Schools.
