Free youth archery class planned

The Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a beginner and intermediate archery class for children ages 9-14.

Classes will be held from 3-4 p.m. and from 4-5 p.m. on three consecutive Wednesdays starting this Wednesday at Hale Halawai. Specify which class time is preferred when registering.

The activity is free, but the donation of a package of balloons to be used as targets would be appreciated.

Korean War Veterans Association meets

There will be a meeting of the Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Kona Vet Center, 73-4876 Kamanu St., Suite 207. There is an elevator for those who need one.

Membership is open to any person who has seen honorable service in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard within Korea including territorial waters and airspace at any time Sept. 3, 1945, to the present, or outside of Korea June 25, 1950, to Jan. 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.

Buddha Day service planned

The fifth annual Hawaii Association of International Buddhists Buddha Day service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at the Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple’s Social Hall.

The featured speaker will be Bishop Eric Matsumoto of the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii. All are invited to take part in this observance of the Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth. Donations are welcome.

Kona Hongwanji is at 81-6630 Mamalahoa Highway in Kealakekua.
