KAILUA-KONA — A man indicted for killing a pedestrian while driving on Kawaihae Road last February turned himself in on Friday.
A bench warrant of $15,000 was issued Feb. 6 for the arrest of Bertjim Salmo Badua, who was indicted for negligent homicide and drunken driving after he allegedly hit 38-year-old Jacob Freebaim, of Waimea, as he walked near the Door of Faith Church on Feb. 7, 2016.
Freebaim suffered critical injuries from the crash and died five hours later.
According to a Hawaii police report obtained Monday, Badua, 28, of Kapaau, turned himself in and was booked into jail on negligent homicide, possession of drug paraphernalia, promoting a dangerous drug, identified as cocaine, and driving while intoxicated.
Badua has since been released from jail after posting bail. Bail was set at $15,000.
His next court hearing is 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
