VFW plans dinner, meeting
The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 12122 will hold a community $5 pasta dinner served with salad and desert from 5-7 p.m. Friday. The post is at 74-5543 Kaiwi St., Ste. 185A in Kona’s Old Industrial Area.
The post’s monthly meeting will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Honpa Hongwanji
Hilo Betsuin hosts seminar
As part of its Big Island Nembutsu Seminar, Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin invites the public to its Spring O-Higan celebration and Spring Seminar March 17-19. Featured speaker will be Dr. Mark Unno, associate professor at the University of Oregon.
The celebration begins with a free public lecture from 7-9 p.m. March 17 in the main temple hall, during which Unno will touch on his seminar theme, “Rhythms of Great Compassion: Seasons of Life and Death.”
The March 18 session is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. requiring a fee of $10 to cover lunch and materials. Registration must be made by March 15 at the temple office, 398 Kilauea Avenue, 961-6677. On March 19, Unno will share a Dharma message at the 9 a.m. Sunday Family Service.
Spring Art Camp planned for students
Society for Kona’s Education and Art in Honaunau will host a Spring Art Camp from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. March 20-24 for students ages 6-11.
Artists and crafters will create with students through clay, painting, drawing, dance, drama and mixed media projects, outdoor games and performance.
Tuition is $145 for the week. Register by Monday for an early bird $10 discount. Scholarships are available.

Program focuses on life of Amy Greenwell
The Kailua-Kona Library will host Maile Melrose, president of Friends of Amy B. H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden from 4-5 p.m. Tuesday.
She will present the life of Amy Greenwell, the founder of Kona’s beloved Hawaiian garden as well as the history behind the name and an update of the current garden situation.
Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, the program is free.
