Hawaiian heritage plant talk coming up

The Kailua-Kona Library will host a presentation by the Community Seed Library called Canoe Plant Food and Medicine from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

Hawaiian heritage plants brought by early Polynesian settlers as sources of food and medicine are legacy plants with culinary and healing uses today. The Same Canoe Local Food Challenge is raising awareness of island-grown canoe crops to help build appreciation, grow consumer demand and encourage local farmers and gardeners to increase production of these heritage plants.

The talk will include a slide show, free tasting and recipe sharing.

Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, the program is free to the public but donations are welcome.
