Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation offers grants

Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation is accepting applications for its grant program from organizations and projects that help to improve the legal status and welfare of women and children in Hawaii. Applications are accepted twice a year in April and October. The deadline to apply for the next available grants is April 14.

Hawaii Women’s Legal Foundation typically awards grants ranging from $500-$5,000. It prefers not to award funds for operational expenses, and instead prefers to make awards on a project-by-project basis or as a means to “jump-start” an organization’s funding sources.

Applications and info: www.hwlf.org/grants or email Dianne Brookins, dbrookins@ahfi.com or Zale Okazaki, zale.okazak@hawadvocate.com.

Centering prayer workshop planned

A workshop entitled “Meditation, Mysticsm and Love: The Path of Centering Prayer Meditation” will present centering prayer as a method for opening to the inner presence of God. The class is from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St.

Drawing on teachings from the New Testament, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, Thomas Merton and other modern day mystics, the program will introduce a path to a deeper encounter with God and to the healing, inspiration and embodied love resulting from walking such a path.

The workshop will be taught by Farley Jones, president of the Pacific Rim Education Foundation. Suggested donation is $10. Reservations and info: email Farley at prefpeace@gmail.com.
