Astronomy day for families planned

Kailua-Kona Public Library will host Aunty Mimi’s Astro-bash for free family fun. The event is from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Attendees will experience the world of astronomy with hands-on science projects, planetarium shows and a live science show to explore the wacky world of space. There will be free giveaways, face painting and a chance to win super cool prizes. The program is free and suitable for all ages.

Lions Club of Kona offers scholarships

The Lions Club of Kona is offereing four scholarships of $1,000 for four-year colleges and two $500 scholarships for two-year programs.

For 2017 Konawaena High School graduates, the Lions Club of Kona, Lion William and Bertha Paris Memorial Scholarship and the Lions Club of Kona, Lion Donald Sasaki/Cal-Kona Produce Scholarship and two general scholarships for four-year colleges will be awarded. There are two $500 scholarships as well.

Applications for the scholarships are available through Stacey Jones at Konawaena High School. The deadline to apply is the end of the school day on April 14.

Kona Coffee Living History Farm offers spring activities

Kona Historical Society’s Kona Coffee Living History Farm will offer spring-related crafts, games, gardening and activities for visitors of all ages from March 20- 24.

Farm interpreters will also talk about Shunbun no Hi, a national holiday in Japan.

The Kona Coffee Living History Farm is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays at 82-6199 Mamalahoa Highway in Captain Cook, near mile marker 110. It is owned and operated by the Kona Historical Society.
