The eight families that have been approved for a new Habitat for Humanity Home for the 10-day, 10-home Blitz Build in September came together March 4 in the Lai Opua neighborhood to bless the sites where their homes will be built.

Pastor Tex Texeira from The Hub gathered the families early in the morning for a prayer before each of the families went to their individual lots to bless the sites of their future homes.

“It’s a very important day, for a lot of reasons,” said Executive Director Patrick Hurney. “First, the families get to take the time to bless their lots, and reflect. Second, it’s exciting, because it’s the first real step that the families get to take with us towards building and owning their homes.”

The Blitz Build will take place between Sept. 13-23. Ten homes will be built with predominantly volunteer labor. Habitat is looking for volunteers to help with construction, food service, security and registration.
