Kona Roping Club hosts rodeo this weekend
The Kona roping Club and about 250 contestants will participate in the 51st annual Kona Stampede Rodeo. Included in the rodeo are the Po’o Wai U and double mugging events. Other events include bull riding, tie down roping, and ribbon mugging, among others.
The rodeo will take place at the newly renovated Hounaunau Rodeo Area on the City of Refuge road. Action beings at 8 a.m. on Saturday with slack roping to qualify for the show and the rodeo begins at noon. Sunday, the show kicks off at noon as well. Admission to the event is $8 and children under 11 are free. Concessions will be available.

Keauhou Canoe Club hosting races Saturday
The Keauhou Canoe Club will host two races on March 18. The first race is a 3-mile event for recreational paddlers in OC6 canoes, starting from Keauhou with a turnaround point at Kahaluu. Registration opens at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m.
The second race will be a HIPA event known as the Kuuipo Race, named after the late Eda Hinchcliffe. There is a 6-mile short course from Keauhou to Lyman’s Bay and back and a 10-mile long course from Honokohau Harbor to Keauhou Bay. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the races begin at 10 a.m.

Kona Boxing Club event
The Kona Boxing Club will host a youth boxing event at the Thelma Parker Gym in Waimea on March 25 at 6:30 p.m. The main event will be an adult match “to see who has the fastest hands.” Entry for those age 13-and-up will be $12, 8-12 will be $8 and 7-and-under are free. Doors open at 5 p.m.
Big Island Sports Academy hosting ‘Special Forces’ football camp
Big Island Sports Academy will be hosting a six clinics focusing on special teams play for kickers, holders, punters, long snappers and returners June 8-11 at Konawaena High School for boys and girls ages 12-18. Day of event registration is $150.
The camp will be led by Coach Paul Alsbury, a high school and collegiate All-American from Edinburg, Texas, who had a brief career as a punter for the Dallas Cowboys before becoming a high school and college coach and athletic director.
