KAILUA-KONA — What better way to donate to the Food Basket than being able to pick up some distinctly Kona art as a payoff for the good deed?
On Friday night, art lovers are invited to local artist Brad “Tiki Shark” Parker’s March Madness art show at the Kona Oceanfront Gallery. The exhibit will feature some new items Parker has been working on as well as some of his 2016 line — all of which will have their prices reduced for patrons who bring cans of food to donate to Hawaii Island’s food bank.
“It’s great when you can go to work and have fun too,” said En Young, The Food Basket’s executive director, who has partnered with Parker in fundraising shows before. “With Brad, there’s always laughs.”
The number of donated items sets how high the discount is. Five cans of food nets a 15 percent discount, More that earns more, although the reduction caps out at 25 percent.
The show will be from 6-9 p.m. at the gallery owned by Mark Hanna at 75-5770 Alii Drive in Waterfront Row. And while the show is one-night event, the donation deal will last throughout the month.
Parker said he holds the nonprofit dear because he’s seen friends who have benefit from it over the years.
“I saw friends who lived in harsh poverty,” he said.
“It really is for a good cause,” Parker’s agent, Abbas Hassan, added.
