WAIMEA — No injuries were reported after a woman crashed her vehicle into the dining area of a McDonald’s on Wednesday evening in Waimea.

The crash happened at about 7 p.m. Major Robert Wagner, with the Hawaii Police Department, said a 56-year-old woman was parking in front of the restaurant when she told police her foot might have slipped off the brake and hit the gas, sending the car partially through the dining area.

She was not cited for the accident.

Store owner Robert Leopoldino said it was a slow night inside the fast food restaurant and it appeared the woman lost control of her vehicle.

As of Thursday morning the dining area was still closed, but Leopoldino expected it to reopen in the afternoon. The drive-thru was running normally.

Colin Edsman was nearby with his wife Maren when they heard sirens. They made their way to McDonald’s and saw the commotion after the accident. The novelty of the image prompted Edsman to take a picture.

“You don’t see a car inside a building often,” he said.
