West Hawaii Keiki Coalition meets

Parents, kupuna, agencies, business leaders and community individuals are invited to a West Hawaii Keiki Coalition meeting from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday at Shorebreak Coffee Shop, 75-170 Hualalai Road.

The coalition works to encourage nurturing, loving families and communities by promoting the protective factors.

Family skate night planned at Old Airport

An ’80s themed family skate night and outdoor market is planned from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, April 1 at the Old Kona Airport Park skate rink.

There will be music, food, shopping, an ’80s costume contest and guest appearances for keiki.

All ages are welcome and anything with wheels goes! A $5 entry includes a raffle ticket. Parents and keiki 2 years old and younger are free. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to West Hawaii Hockey Association.

Nonprofit vendor booths are free.

Rapid ohia death symposium planned

A rapid ohia death symposium is planned from 9 a.m. to noon April 1 at the West Hawaii Civic Center.

The rapid ohia death discovery timeline, its origin, how the fungus spreads, wood treatment research, effects on the forest, management actions, and community outreach and engagement will be discussed. Mayor Harry Kim will provide an introduction. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Volunteers needed for Camp Erin

Camp Erin Hawaii, hosted by Hospice of Kona, is seeking volunteers for this year’s camping weekend, June 23-25 in Kailua-Kona.

Camp Erin Hawaii is a free bereavement camp for children and teens ages 6-17 who are grieving the death of someone close to them. It is a traditional, fun, high-energy camp combined with grief education, peer bonding, and emotional support, led by grief support professionals and trained local volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to be cabin big buddies, to offer clinical support, offer free time activities, to be on the general support team, help with grief workshops or set-up and take down.

Grant to help women returning to work or continuing education

Kona Business Professional Women are accepting applications for their annual grant for success offered to women returning back to the work field or trying to improve their status in the work field through continuing education. Contact Grant for Success Chairwoman Mary Reynolds, 334-0077.

Kona Business and Professional Woman are accepting applications for their annual $1,000 scholarships awarded to five Kona high school seniors planning to attend college. Interested seniors should see their school scholarship counselors for applications or call Mary Reynolds at 334-0077.
