David Kaiu, Jr.

Mr. David Kawika “Owl” Kaiu, Jr., of Nanakuli, Oahu, died at the Hale Hoola Hamakua facility in Honokaa, Jan. 29, 2017. He was born March 9, 1953, in Honolulu.

A Celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date. A GoFundMe account has been established for David and any contributions may be sent to his sister, Alicia Kaiu, 74-5576 Pawai Place, J672, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740.

He is survived by his brothers, Haines M. Kaiu of Nanakuli, Oahu, Isaac W. Kaiu of Nanakuli, and Edward K. Kaiu of Oregon; sisters, Deborah H. Kaiu-Brown of Nanakuli, and Alicia M. Kaiu of Kailua-Kona; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Catherine Ford

Catherine Ford, 63, of Pahoa, died Feb. 3, 2017, at her home. Born in Ames, Iowa, She spent over 30 years working in human services, and was also a local business owner, community volunteer, a charter member of the Weinberg Fellows and an honorable discharged veteran of the U.S. Navy.

A private celebration of her life was held in early February.

She is survived by son, Scott; mother, Louis; brother, Tim; sisters, Margaret, Holly, Vicky; numerous nieces and nephews.

Fumiko Takahashi

Fumiko “Helen” Takahashi, 92, of Hilo died Feb. 19, 2017, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama. Born in Hilo, she was a retired executive secretary at HPM Building Supply. She was a member of the Hilo Taishoji Soto Mission Kyodan, Fujinkai, Busshinai, and Sunday school as well as being a charter member of the Hawaii Island Niigata Kenji Kai.

Services have been held.

She is survived by sons, Daniel and Royce (Tina) Takahashi of Los Angeles, two granddaughters; sister, Aiko (Isamu) Kanekuni of Hilo; brother, Tadao Abe of Los Angeles; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
