Hawaii Island police arrested 22 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant between March 20 and Sunday. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.

Eleven of the arrests were made by officers in the Kona District while Puna officers arrested five motorists and South Hilo officers four. Two drivers were arrested in South Kohala.

So far this year, there have been 302 DUI arrests compared with 270 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.9 percent.

There have been 313 major accidents so far this year and there have been six fatal crashes, resulting in six fatalities.
