KAILUA-KONA — A North Kohala man arrested in connection to an attempted homicide investigation last week was officially charged with attempted murder in the first degree, officials confirmed Monday.
Dwight Antonio Rivera, 32, appeared in district court Monday for an arraignment and bail hearing after he was taken into custody Thursday for allegedly ramming his vehicle into a truck that was occupied by a 31-year-old North Kohala woman and 36-year-old Kamuela man.
The incident occurred at about 1 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 250 and Kynnersley Road. The call came in as an active domestic dispute, according to a press release from the Hawaii Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a heavily damaged brown Toyota pickup truck, occupied by the two victims.
During the investigation, officers discovered Rivera allegedly used a red Dodge pickup truck to ram the victims’ vehicle repeatedly.
According to the press release the woman was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital for minor injuries and was later released.
Rivera turned himself in at 2:10 p.m. Thursday in Kohala.
On Monday, bail was set at $80,000. He was also charged with criminal property damage.
Rivera is set to appear next in court for a preliminary at 1 p.m. today.
