Konawaena softball standout Shaylann Marie Grace is this week’s West Hawaii Today Athlete of the Week.

Grace — Konawaena’s ace in the circle — pitched both games as the Wildcats swept Honokaa in a best-of-three semifinal series, advancing to the BIIF championship series for the first time since 2014.

In Game 1, Grace allowed just two hits, struck out six and walked one. She was equally impressive in the second game, throwing all seven innings, allowing two runs, one earned, off five hits. She struck out five and walked one.

“Shaylann is consistent,” Konawaena coach Kellye Krug said after the game. “The fact that they all go out and have fun with their friends and get it done the way they do, they are all super amazing kids.”

Konawaena outscored the Dragons a combined 23-4 in the series.

The Wildcats will face Kamehameha-Hawaii in the championship series this week, looking to claim their first BIIF title since 2011.
